Districtwide Owl Boxes
The construction of the new Vicente/Briones High School Campus was delayed by months due to a nest of owls!
During construction a nest, complete with eggs belonging to a protected species of owls, was found on the site in a Canary Island palm tree. The much anticipated project came to a screeching halt. The nest could not be disturbed because it was protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty.
The District patiently waited for the eggs to hatch and each baby bird to leave the nest before resuming construction. With the knowledge of these owls needing safe spaces in our community, the District called upon the Alhambra High wood shop to construct owl boxes. MUSD placed four owl boxes on school sites throughout the district. At this time each box is currently inhabited by a family of owls including the original owls from the construction site!
